Interaction Between Charged Balloon and Wall

By Dr. Ji Shen, University of California Berkeley

The computer simulation below demonstrates the interaction between a charged balloon (e.g., rubbing the balloon with your cloth) and a wall. Please first observe carefully what happens. You may play with the slider of "charge of balloon" to change the type and amount of the charges on the balloon. Explain why this happens. After think about the mechanism, you may click on the button below "microscopic Model" to view the microscopic model. And explain why the microscopic model helps you understand the phenomenon.
