| In this model, the interatomic interactions in the soft mateiral are much weaker than those in the nail, whereas those in the hard material are comparable. As a result, the nail can be easily pushed into the soft material, but it cannot be pushed into the hard material. If you run the simulation for the latter case, you will find the nail bends. |
